To build a nation of confident girls is exactly what Suncorp and Netball Australia set out to do with their ‘Team Girls’ campaign, which has been recognised at this year’s Parents' Voice Fame and Shame Awards.
Dedicated to fostering and promoting girls’ participation in sport, the ‘Team Girls’ campaign received the most votes for the Parents’ Choice – Physical Activity Award within the fame category.
‘Team Girls’ came to life in 2017, following research which revealed that almost half of teenage girls are dropping out of sport between the ages of 15 and 17.
To help girls and their parents navigate through these formative years, Suncorp developed a range of tools and resources to provide support and boost confidence on and off the court.
Australian netball icons Laura Geitz, Clare McMeniman, Liz Ellis and current Suncorp Super Netball and Australian Diamonds players joined the movement as ambassadors and shared their own personal stories of perseverance from their junior years.
Netball Australia CEO Marne Fechner is excited to partner with Suncorp on a campaign that delivers such a positive message to the community.
“The Suncorp 'Team Girls' campaign has been instrumental in amplifying such an important message – sport for girls matters,” said Fechner.
“Netball finds ways to empower girls and women every day and we’re thrilled to be working with partners, such as Suncorp, who help us encourage girls to get involved and stay involved.”
Executive General Manager Brand and Marketing at Suncorp, Mim Haysom said “We are incredibly proud of the traction the 'Team Girls' program has gained since we launched it almost three years ago. This award demonstrates that parents clearly agree with the message of how critical it is for girls to get active and stay active for as long as possible.
“Suncorp is delighted to continue working with Netball Australia to grow the sport that does such an amazing job of connecting families and communities, and providing inspirational role models for the younger generation of players.”
Now in its 15th year, the awards celebrate those brands that are promoting a healthy lifestyle to kids, and highlight unhealthy food marketing.
Parents' Voice formed in 2004 and represents thousands of parents, carers and health professionals dedicated to improving the food and physical activity of Australian children.
