Welcome From Netball Australia Interim CEO - Ron Steiner
On behalf of Netball Australia, welcome to the 2021 National Netball Championships staged at the Hobart Netball and Sports Centre.
We thank Netball Tasmania for being our hosts of this championship this year which provides a great opportunity for Australia’s most promising young netballers to get back on the court representing their state/territory, especially following the cancellation of 2020’s event due to the global pandemic.
These championships play an integral part of Netball Australia’s High Performance Pathway and lay the foundations for many of our young rising star players to experience a high performance competition and provide inspiration to compete for illustrious international careers.
It’s an exciting time and excellent opportunity for these athletes, umpires and coaches to come together and be immersed in the high-performance environment.
We know that all athletes will enjoy an incredible competition over the next five days representing their home state/territory.
Thank you to all the volunteers, coaches, umpires and bench officials, and the staff of Netball Tasmania and Netball Australia for your contribution in ensuring these important national championships run smoothly.
Best of luck for a fulfilling, rewarding and enjoyable tournament.
Welcome From Netball Tasmania CEO - Aaron Pidgeon
On behalf of Netball Tasmania I am excited to welcome you to Hobart for the 2021 National Netball Championships. Netball Tasmania is pleased to be able to hold the Nationals in Hobart for the first time in many years, and proud to be hosting it at the Hobart Netball and Sports Centre which is owned and operated by one of our Affiliated Associations.
I wish to congratulate all of the athletes, coaches, and various officials who have been selected to participate in the Championships this year. Representing your State at National Championships is a fantastic achievement and an experience you will never forget. No doubt the week will present both highs and lows, so learn from every experience and enjoy every minute. Not everyone reaches this standard of competition, and you never know if you will have the opportunity again, so play every minute like it might be your last.
In the absence of an Suncorp Super Netball team, live Netball action of a this standard is not often available for the Tasmanian Netball community, so the opportunity to see Australia’s best up and coming talent is an exciting one. I trust that the community will come out in force not only to support Tasmania’s teams, but all teams participating in the Championships. It’s an amazing opportunity to see future SSN stars in action and be able to follow their careers. We hope to be able to soon host an SSN team of our own in Tasmania and look forward to welcoming some of these talented athletes back as part of that program!
The amount of work conducted in the lead up to a Championship is significant and I’d like to pass on a huge thanks to Netball Australia and also my team at Netball Tasmania. These teams have worked closely together to create an event which we hope will be a positive and memorable experience for participants and spectators alike. I’d also like to pass on a huge thanks to the many, many volunteers who will work at the Championships throughout this week. These individuals have given their time willingly, and in many cases taken time off work to do so. You truly are the lifeblood of our sport and I thank you on behalf of all of the many participants and spectators who will benefit from your dedication to our sport this week.
Whilst the action at Hobart Netball and Sports Centre over the course of the Championships is not to be missed, I encourage everyone to make the most of their time in Hobart and to get out and experience many of the wonderful opportunities that are on offer. Tasmania is a beautiful place full of rich history and amazing natural wilderness. If you need suggestions or assistance in relation to enjoying everything that Tassie has to offer, please don’t hesitate to ask any of the Netball Tasmania staff or volunteers at the Championships and they will welcome the opportunity to help in any way they can.
Enjoy your Netball and enjoy your time in Hobart. I wish everyone the very best for the week ahead and I look forward to you launching and furthering long and successful Netball careers in Hobart this week.
