Australia’s most up and coming netballers will converge at the new Queensland State Netball Centre this April for the 17&Under and 19&Under 2019 National Championships.
Teams from each state and territory will compete in the tournament, beginning on Thursday 11 April and finals taking place on Tuesday 16 April.
The tournament will be one of the first events to be taking place at the newly-established Queensland State Netball Centre, with all matches taking place in the world-class facility.
Netball Australia’s General Manager of Performance Stacey West says the National Championships remain a key fixture on the Australian netball calendar and key element of the high-performance pathway.
“The tournament allows our nation’s best up-and-coming netballers to showcase their talent at a national competition in front of national selectors,” she said.
“With all members of our current Diamonds squad having represented their home states at these championships earlier in their careers, the tournament continues to be crucial to identifying future Samsung Diamonds squad members.”
Netball Queensland CEO Catherine Clark said that the organisation is honoured to be hosting the major netball pathway event at the new facility in Brisbane and is looking forward to seeing the talent on display.
“As an organisation we are pretty passionate about creating pathways for young Australian netballers to shine. This is reflected in our current Firebirds playing roster, packed with local home-grown talent. So, hosting the Netball National Championships is a fabulous opportunity for us to take this a step further. It is an ideal occasion for us to showcase the new Queensland State Netball Centre and introduce people from across Australia to our wonderful new venue,” she said.
“I had the privilege of representing Queensland in my chosen sport so I understand the huge honour and experience this will be for these girls. It represents hours of training, sacrifice and hard work.
“The event will bring together Australia’s best young netball talent who will all be proudly representing their state or territory, so we’re bound to witness some incredible netball.”
