If so, then Netball Australia is encouraging you to register your interest to get involved in an exciting new Sporting Schools program.
Launched by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) this year, the Sporting Schools program has replaced the Active After-School Communities program and aims to get children involved in sport at a young age by allowing them to learn skills in a safe environment.
Netball Australia’s Participation Manager Chris Dobson said netball would begin delivering the program in term 3 from mid-July and is encouraging anyone interested to sign up through the Sporting Schools Website registration page. You must have a minimum foundation coaching accreditation to be involved.
Coaches will have the opportunity to be paid for coaching in the Sporting Schools program and registering your interest is the first step to becoming involved in this exciting initiative.
Dobson said the highly-successful ANZ NetSetGO program has been slightly modified to cater for the Sporting Schools environment.
A four-session ANZ NetSetGO program will be utilised as the delivery model for Sporting Schools programs for netball across the country.
Schools will be able to request the following programs and coaches will be supplied with resources designed for each:
- ‘Net’ (Foundation/Prep – Year 2) – a play-based motor skill program with the emphasis on the acquisition of basic motor skills in a fun environment through netball games;
- ‘Set’ (Year 3-4) – a program to develop skills through a series of fun activities and minor games incorporating game play activities and challenges;
- ‘GO’ (Year 5 – 6) – a program of continued development of netball skills within a positive, supportive and encouraging learning environment. At the School level this may include an increased focus on game play in preparation for Inter-School Sport, School-based Round Robin and/or House Competitions.
Netball Australia and the Member Organisations are seeking to enlist the support of as many local community coaches as part of a nation-wide community coach workforce and we want you to be involved.
