Netball Australia has congratulated six new coaches on completing the High Performance Coach Accreditation program, the pinnacle of Netball Australia’s coaching pathway.
The six qualified coaches were yesterday presented with their certificate of completion by Jill McIntosh, Netball Australia Hall of Fame legend, during the final matches of the 2018 Quad Series.
The graduates are the first to complete the revised two-year course implemented by Netball Australia which involves two in-course residential programs and 12 months of coach mentoring over the course of a full competition season.
Netball Australia Executive General Manager of Sport Andrew Collins says the benefits of the new two-year High Performance Coach Accreditation program are extensive and that the improvements to the course will help ensure that Australia’s high performance coaches are of the highest calibre.
“This program takes a holistic approach to learning and development which is tailored to each individual coach and occurs within their own coaching environment,” he said.
“The structured mentoring aspect of the program supports the coach throughout the course and improves collaboration between Netball Australia, the coach, their mentor and the respective member organisation – it provides more valuable learning and assessment activities that are practical and evidence based.”
The six new coaches are from all over Australia and individually bring a great amount of expertise and experience to the high performance coaching cohort.
Karly Guadagnin from Western Australia has been coaching the West Coast Warriors in the WA Netball League for the last few years, taking the team to three consecutive grand finals and two premierships.
Sharyn Hill of the ACT is the current Canberra Giants Head Coach in the Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL), the runners-up in 2018. She is also the Head Coach of both the ACT Academy of Sport and Netball ACT Academy.
Brian Lines of South Australia is the current Southern Force Head Coach, competing in the DUANL. Having coached the U21 South Australian team to a National Championship in 2015, Brian has also coached in the State Premier Netball League as well as assisting junior development at his home club.
Tracey-Jeanes Fraser of Queensland currently coaches at a number of levels across the netball community. From the DUANL as head coach of QLD Fusion, 19/U Coach at State League and the Secondary Schools Sports Association, and at the grassroots as an A-grade and under-11 team coach for the Western Districts Netball Association.
Gerard Murphy from Victoria is the current head coach of the Geelong Cougars in the Victorian Netball League. He has led all three teams to the finals for the past two years and is also a Victorian Fury (DUANL) selector.
Dan Ryan spent four years working as an assistant coach at the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the ANZ Championship between 2012-2015 before head coaching Manchester Thunder in the UK Super League in 2016. For the past two seasons, Dan has been the Head Coach of the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the Suncorp Super Netball League.
Another high performance candidate in the current cohort who is finalising the last of her course assessment to complete her accreditation is Christine Vogue from Queensland. During 2018, Christine has held the positions of Sunshine Coast Lightning Development Coach, Co-Coach of Northern Territory Storm in the DUANL and Brisbane West Lions Division 1 Head Coach in the QLD State League.
Netball Australia looks forward to working closely with its new high performance coaches and their specialised expertise into the future.
