NSW Swifts midcourter Maddy Proud headed to Mana Netball Club over the weekend to meet the last Australia Post One Netball Community Award winner for 2018.
Jamee Stair has been recognised after founding and coaching the first Indigenous netball team to participate in the Bathurst Netball Competition, the Mana Alintas. Having spent most Saturday mornings on court with her team, Jamee has been able to create a culture of inclusion and diversity across the entire Bathurst Netball community.
Stair also played a critical role in securing sponsorship with local business, Orange Aboriginal Medical Service, who was able to assist with uniforms, shoes and ultimately easing the financial burden of players and their families.
Suncorp Super Netball star Maddy Proud said all the nominations were once again inspiring and highlighted the passion and dedication of so many quiet achievers in clubs and associations across the country.
“In my role as an Australia Post One Netball Ambassador I have the wonderful opportunity to spend time with people, like Jamee, whose commitment to making sure that everyone has an opportunity to participate in netball, regardless of their circumstances, leaves me more motivated than ever to bring my best to the sport and those around me.”
Only in her first year, Jamee’s vision can already be seen in the smiles of the girls. The well-versed coach has enjoyed getting to know the team and is excited to take this journey which extends well beyond the white lines of the court.
“I am blessed and extremely proud that I have been able to help create an opportunity for a group of beautiful, young Indigenous girls," said Stair.
