Australian netball’s biggest names have come together for National Reconciliation Week in a video calling for all Australians to take courage when it comes to learning about and moving towards reconciliation.
In line with this year’s Reconciliation Week theme, ‘Grounded In Truth: Walk Together With Courage’, netball’s elite are sending the message that reconciliation takes the courage to face ourselves, ask hard questions and to keep learning as much as we can.
National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June each year to commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the result of the 1967 referendum that recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the national Census and removed discriminatory clauses from the national Constitution, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and cultures, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Netball Australia CEO Marne Fechner said it’s important for all Australians to engage in challenging conversations around reconciliation and for us all to walk together with courage.
“We have come a long way and part of that journey is acknowledging that there is still a long way to go. Netball Australia is proud to use our platform to inspire action around this year’s Reconciliation Week messages,” she said.
“We must acknowledge the importance of reconciliation week and take the time to learn and understand, in order for our country to move forward on our reconciliation journey.”
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) began in 1993 as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation and today it’s celebrated by schools, business and organisations across the country.
