The Melbourne Mavericks will play their Round 12 Suncorp Super Netball match at Hobart’s MyState Bank Arena as part of a two-year partnership between Netball Australia, Netball Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government.
The League’s newest club will inspire and support Netball Tasmania’s pathway programs with preseason and home and away matches showcased in Tasmania across 2024 and 2025.
Netball Australia will support Netball Tasmania with opportunities for pathway athletes to experience elite training environments and provide greater exposure to high performance competitions at the national level.
Tasmanian coaches will be provided specialist pathway coaching to improve their expertise and technical knowledge.
“We are thrilled to announce a new partnership that will forge an exciting connection between grassroots and elite netball,” said Netball Australia interim CEO Stacey West.
“Last year the Tasmanian netball community came out in full support of the Origin Australian Diamonds in the South Africa Series, selling out two matches in Hobart.
“We look forward to seeing a similar sentiment in 2024 and 2025 with the Suncorp Super Netball League showcased in Tasmania for athletes, coaches and officials to see the world’s best netball league in their home state.”
Netball Tasmania CEO Mitch Coulson echoed West’s excitement towards the new partnership.
“We are ecstatic to enter into this agreement with Netball Australia and the Melbourne Mavericks and are extremely grateful for the continued support that the Tasmanian Government provides netball in this state,” Coulson said.
“This new deal will not only bring the Suncorp Super Netball to Tasmania but will also provide a wealth of additional opportunities for Tasmanian netballers and coaches to connect with the elite level via Netball Australia and the Melbourne Mavericks.
“The timing of this announcement is a huge boost for netball across Tasmania and comes right on the eve of the 2024 Tasmanian Netball League season which kicks off this weekend for season number 37, making it Tasmania’s longest running female state league.”
Tickets to the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball matches are now on sale and be purchased via the Suncorp Super Netball website.
