Netball Australia is pleased to announce highly regarded sports administrator Megan Simpson has been appointed Executive General Manager of Netball.
Simpson joins Netball Australia from Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens, where she held an executive role as General Manager, High Performance and Pathways.
She brings over 20 years of experience working in high performance and sports administration, as well as senior roles in corporate services.
In the newly created role Executive General Manager of Netball, Simpson will oversee participation, pathway and performance – from Woolworths NetSetGO through to the Origin Australian Diamonds.
The role will also lead Netball Australia’s international market development programs, including Netball Australia’s partnership with the Australian Government through PacificAus Sports, Team Up and Official Development Assistance programs, as well as the sport’s workforce of coaches, umpires and volunteers.
Netball Australia CEO Stacey West said Simpson’s experience was a perfect fit.
“We wanted to appoint someone who loves and understands our game and we are thrilled to welcome Megan to the role,” West said.
“Megan’s skills and experience will build on Netball Australia’s commitment to ensuring we continue to maximise the growth opportunities in front of us.
“This is a critical role for our organisation that will lead the strategy for netball’s thriving participation base, strengthen Netball Australia’s pathway programs both nationally and internationally and ensure the sustained success of world champions the Origin Australian Diamonds.”
Simpson also has extensive coaching experience, working as Netball Australia’s National Coaching Director from 2000-05, leading Netball Fiji as Head Coach and taking the team to the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006, as well as various selector and coaching roles within Netball NSW.
Simpson said: “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Netball Australia and contribute to the strategic vision of our sport.
“The opportunity to build upon the incredible success of our performance system and drive innovations for the growth of the game, particularly with the 2027 Netball World Cup on the horizon, is an exciting prospect.
“I look forward to leading our participation and performance strategies and strengthening relationships with our Member Organisations, Suncorp Super Netball teams, government agencies and key stakeholders to collectively realise the potential of our sport.”
