Ever wondered why you refuse to play centre or why your friend won’t stop calling herself the team’s MVP?
Turns out, your netball position might be written in the stars.
We teamed up with astrologer Jenny Blume to match every netball position to its Zodiac soulmate.
And spoiler alert, it’s not just your sun sign doing the heavy lifting.
Blume explained while your sun sign (aka your star sign) might hint at one position, it’s your Mars sign that really calls the shots when it comes to sports.
“Mars signs can be very interesting because that’s your mode of action,” Blume said.
“With sports, it’s important to look beyond the sun sign.”
While your Scorpio Sun might scream for an intercept your Virgo Mars could be itching to slot goals.
Mars signs play a key role in sports. And on top of that, the elements are also at play influencing your position.
Fire, Earth, Air and Water.
“Air signs are really chatty, you wouldn't want a whole team of them,” Blume said.
“They’d be unfocused and chatting too much, you want a mix of the social aspect with the air signs but then you want the fire signs with their competitiveness and enthusiasm to propel a team along.
“The earth signs are needed for stability to say, ‘no come on, guys we all need to make it to training once or twice a week,’ they're the reliable person anchoring the team.
“And water signs are caring, they'll try and sort out people's emotional problems.
“When you put it all together you can get a really well-rounded team.”
With all of that in mind, let’s dive in and break it down.
Here’s what astrology says about your netball position, whether you’re the strategic mastermind or the workhorse.
Goal Shooter
They hold their nerve under pressure but have zero interest in running more than necessary.
“Earth signs suit goal shooter,” Blume said.
Letherbarrow is one of many goal shooters who hold their nerve under pressure.“They don’t want to do the running but they’re reliable and precise.
“The most precise sign would be a Virgo, then Capricorn as they have patience.”
Goal Attack
Most people have a knack for picking a goal attack out of a crowd.
They’ve got main character energy and will take a shot at the long bomb in the final moments of a match even though they’ve missed the last three.
“Leos like the spotlight, the recognition and applause,” Blume said.
“Goal attacks get their dopamine hit more from shooting that goal, so their motivation is different from a goal shooter who just wants to be dependable.
While Leos love the limelight, there’s another sign Blume believes also thrives in the spotlight.
“Aries,” she said.
Beckford thrives in goal attack.“They’re a fire sign like a Leo, they're excitable and creative so will come up with different plays and won't do what's been practised over and over again."
Wing Attack
Wing attack is for the air signs; they’re quick thinking and always in motion.
“They’re the thinkers of the Zodiac, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius,” Blume said.
“Air signs think on their feet, love fresh ideas and strategic thinking.
“They’re often quite agile, in particular a Gemini would be really good in wing attack."
Centre
The glue that holds the ends of the court together, they’re chaos in human form but know how to bundle up their energy and take charge.
“They’re Cancers, the nurturer of the Zodiac,” Blume said.
“One of the water signs, they have the ability to pull a team together.
“Cancers are people focused so can navigate all the the team dynamics and love doing it.”
Wing Defence
The unsung heroes, they put in the hard work and don’t do it for individual glory, they do it to help their teammates reap the rewards.
Jamie-Lee Price is reliable in both centre and wing defence. There’s no debating here, there’s one sign which immediately springs to mind for Blume.
"It's an earth sign, the best earth sign of all being Capricorn,” she said.
“That's the mountain goat; they are very reliable and are ruled by Saturn.
“They're known for liking to have it all figured out with a plan to get stuff done.
“They’re the hard workers and are very dependable, they will turn up to all the training sessions while some of your fire and air signs may not."
Goal Defence
Powerful, strong and determined to flip a game on its head with a single intercept, they live for the defensive drama.
While they can change a game with one move, there’s multiple signs that would make great goal defences.
“A Taurus, that's the bull, they have determination,” Blume said.
“It’s a strong sign, very reliable but then there’s also Aries.
“Aries are known as the child of the Zodiac, they're enthusiastic, adventurous and will do whatever is required.
One of the league's best defenders Latanya Wilson is a Scorpio. But that’s not all, Blume spotlighted another who would feel at home repping the GD bib.
“Scorpio, it's a water sign; they have a real inner strength and can be quite competitive,” she said.
“It’s a fixed sign like Taurus meaning they won't give up.
“Scorpios have a huge strength, you don't always see it at first, but they can have a quiet determination.”
Goal Keeper
The last line of defence, GK’s share many similarities with their defensive partners.
"Taurus, they’re extremely strong,” Blume said.
"You can wave a red flag, and they won't do anything, they're determined, they’re hyper focused and are going to use their judgement.
"Being hyper focused is a useful trait under pressure.”
The other sign mostly like to find themselevs in GK?
“Capricorn,” Blume said.
“Goal keepers are usually really tall people which always makes me think of the Capricorn Mountain goat.
"It’s an earth sign, they’ve got the patience and determination to play down that end of the court.”
