Following the match between the GIANTS and Sunshine Coast Lightning, the Suncorp Super Netball League has implemented a number of processes and quality assurance systems to better support all teams and match officials ahead of Round 6.
The league has addressed processes and quality assurance systems to reduce the risk of human error and ensure verification processes are improved throughout all Suncorp Super Netball matches.
Human error is a feature of all sport, and while this is the case, there should be mechanisms in place to ensure these kinds of errors have minimal impact on matches and the people involved in our sport.
For the remainder of the season, Champion Data will have an additional resource at every match, with the sole role of recording and checking the official score – both across broadcast and in-venue. This is in addition to the existing scoring process managed by five bench officials.
In addition, a formal score verification process will be completed at the end of each quarter which means the score cannot be changed after each break.
As part of this process, team managers will be immediately notified if there is a change to the score.
A formal process for regular time result reviews has also been established.
The regulation time result review process details the communication protocol and response, should a discrepancy or issue be identified and the scores at the end of regular time are within three points, potentially requiring extra-time.
The new process outlines the immediate response and the specific roles and responsibilities of match officials. It also includes communication protocol to ensure teams, umpires, event staff, fans, broadcast and key stakeholders are immediately informed a result review is being completed.
The league has also clarified with all eight teams they can only request a score check with the match delegate after a score verification has taken place at the end of each quarter.
The Suncorp Super Netball League has held briefing sessions with all match delegates and bench officials ahead of Round 6.
The league has also worked closely with all Suncorp Super Netball teams, broadcast and umpires to implement these processes and quality assurance systems.
