With the final whistle blown and champions crowned, attention turns swiftly to who will contest for the 2026 premiership.
There’s plenty of magnets to move on the board with head coaches departing, teams re-signing their best and some athletes opting to depart their clubs.
Here’s all the answers to the key questions you might have about how the contract signing window works.
When can current SSN players be re-signed by their 2025 team?
Clubs have been able to do this throughout the season and could do so until the contract embargo period began on Saturday 19 July.
When can clubs have discussions with players from other SSN teams and non-SSN players?
Clubs have been able to hold non-binding discussions with both SSN players from other teams and non-SSN players throughout the season but formal negotiations and signing of contracts could not commence until Monday 4 August.
Clubs were able to re-sign their current athletes until July 19.When is the contract signing window?
The contract signing window for free-agents, including non SSN players is from Monday 4 August to Friday 23 August.
During this period players who are free agents may sign with another SSN team or join the league.
Players signed during this period will finalise each team’s contracted squads of 10 for 2026.
How long can a club sign a player for?
Players can be signed on a one-year deal up until the end of the 2026 season.
What about training partners?
Training partners and Nominated Athletes can be signed from Monday 25 August up until four weeks before the first game of the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Training partners can only be contracted on a one-year contract.
Can clubs still choose to elevate an eleventh player?
Teams can choose to upgrade one of their four Nominated Athletes as their club’s eleventh player for 2026.
Training partners and Nominated Athletes can be signed from August 25.What are the eligibility criteria the eleventh player must meet?
Eligibility for a player to be selected as a team’s eleventh player is down to three criteria. The first two must be met, while the third requires one of two options.
- Must be contracted for 2026 as a Nominated Athlete
- Must be eligible to represent Australia in accordance with World Netball Regulations and/or has not represented another National Association’s national representative team(s) in any International Event in the last 4 years
- Must be aged 26 or younger OR has not taken to the court in more than five SSN and/or ANZ Championship matches
