Ms Mostyn is the 28th – and second woman – Governor-General of Australia and was appointed following a distinguished career in business, the not-for-profit sectors, sports administration, community roles and as a policy adviser.
Ms Mostyn’s honorary position as Patron will support netball, which is one of our leading sports and played by over one million Australians.
“The Governor-General is a respected community leader and a trusted custodian of the sport that Australian women and girls have loved and played for almost 100 years,” said Netball Australia Chair Liz Ellis AO.
“We are delighted that the Governor-General, a former junior netballer and supporter of women in sport, has joined Netball Australia as our Patron.
“Netball in Australia has experienced record growth this year, we are building the plans for an even stronger and more inclusive future, and it is an honour for our game to be supported by our nation’s Governor General.”
The Governor-General said: “I am delighted to have been asked to serve as Netball Australia’s Patron and honoured to accept. Across Australia netball helps shape the lives of so many Australian, particularly girls and women – from our world best Diamonds to social players and everything in between, netball gives players skills, leadership experience and memories that last a lifetime.”
