The GIANTS will continue their search for a first win of the season after falling agonisingly short in a 61–60 heartbreaker against West Coast Fever at Ken Rosewall Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Despite a courageous four-quarter performance and multiple momentum swings, the GIANTS were unable to hold the fast-finishing Fever.

The GIANTS struck early in a defensive arm wrestle, setting the tone for a tight contest, with both teams trading blows through intercepts, rebounds and quick transitions.
Sophie Dwyer made her presence felt early with a deflection, while Erin O’Brien and Jodi-Ann Ward combined to apply pressure in the circle.
West Coast Fever’s midcourt, led by Zoe Cransberg and Sasha Glasgow, linked well with goal shooter Romelda Aiken-George, but the GIANTS defensive unit repeatedly disrupted their flow. Matisse Letherbarrow and Dwyer both converted at the post, while Souness and Adamson helped keep ball movement clean through transition.
Fever coach Dan Ryan was heard urging his side to lift intensity, frustrated that they were “standing there watching it.”
A late push from Glasgow kept Fever in touch, but the GIANTS held a narrow advantage at quarter time, leading 13–11.

The second quarter exploded into a high-scoring contest.
Souness and Letherbarrow combined beautifully, with Souness feeding precision lobs into the circle and Letherbarrow finishing strongly.
However, Aiken-George began to assert her dominance under the post, responding with consistent finishes for Fever.
The contest became a shooting duel, with both teams capitalising on turnovers and quick centre passes.
Defensively, Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Fran Williams lifted for Fever, disrupting the GIANTS’ feeds, while Olivia Wilkinson added spark in attack with multiple Suncorp Super Shots that swung momentum back and forth.
The GIANTS briefly surged ahead 6–2 early in the term, but Fever steadied through Dehaney’s intercepts and Olivia Wilkinson's scoring efforts.
At half-time, the GIANTS held a narrow 32–29 lead.

Sasha Glasgow sparked Fever’s comeback, bringing them within a goal, before Sophie Dwyer responded with a crucial Suncorp Super Shot to steady the GIANTS. The margin remained razor-thin, with scores level inside the final minute of the term.
Letherbarrow continued to provide a reliable finishing option, but Fever’s defensive pressure increased through Dehaney and Williams, forcing rushed entries.
At three-quarter time, the GIANTS still held a slight advantage, leading 47–45 in what had set the stage for a heated finish.

The final quarter belonged to Fever’s composure under pressure.
Hope White and Skye Thompson rotated through the midcourt as Fever increased tempo and efficiency from centre passes.
Aiken-George and Glasgow combined repeatedly to edge Fever into the lead, with Aiken-George particularly clinical in crucial moments.
Ruth Aryang and Dehaney produced key defensive plays, including a vital rebound and turnover that halted GIANTS’ momentum.
But the GIANTS refused to go away.
Dwyer landed a crucial Suncorp Super Shot, and Letherbarrow continued to apply pressure, dragging the margin back to within one goal.
But, Fever’s perfect conversion from centre pass in the closing stages proved decisive.
Despite late resistance, the GIANTS were unable to convert in the final seconds and were narrowly defeated 61–60 in a closely fought finish.
