Dozens of up and coming netballers were treated to a special visit from some of the sports’ stars this month.
To celebrate Woolworths NetSetGO month during July the Netball Nation was encouraged to share their netball hero before five lucky winners earned a visit from a Suncorp Super Netball star.
Here’s a run down of where the SSN stars went.
WALKERVILLE NETBALL CLUB
Adelaide Thunderbird and 2023 premiership player Maisie Nankivell paid a visit to Walkerville Netball Club.
Keen netballer, Grace, had nominated her coach Shirley as her hero. She praised Shirley for teaching her how to shoot like a Thunderbird and for being supportive when she feels overwhelmed.
“It was really exciting to have a Thunderbird I’ve seen play on TV come to our club, I feel lucky to have won the chance to meet Maisie,” Grace said.
“It was so cool to have a professional player teach us skills with our coach Shirley.”
LYNDHURST NETBALL FOOTBALL CLUB
Over in Victoria Rahni Samason paid a visit to Lyndhurst Netball Football Club.
Lyndhurst’s Woolworth’s NetSetGO assistant coach Zoe was nominated as a hero for the club. She was recognised for her mentorship of the girls and her team spirit being the first person to offer everyone help.
“It was so fun having Rahni come to our club, she was really cool and taught us all about flicking our wrist and showing our beautiful nails when we shoot,” Zoe said.
“We got to ask her all sorts of questions and she even signed autographs for us. It was an awesome experience to share with our teams and club at Lyndhurst.”
NORTH DIANELLA NETBALL CLUB
Coach Erin from North Dianella Netball Club in Western Australia was nominated by netballer Elina.
West Coast Fever’s Emma Cosh and Verity Simmons visited the club to meet Elina and recognise Erin’s work.
Erin was praised for encouraging her team, reminding them to have fun, inspiring them to learn and never giving up on them while Elina said she was excited to have Cosh and Simmons visit.
"Having two West Coast Fever players at my netball training was amazing,” Elina said.
“Verity and Emma taught us how to pass quickly and work as a team. It was the best day ever.”
RANDWICK NETBALL ASSOCIATION
In New South Wales, Tayla Fraser ventured to Randwick Netball Association to meet Matilda who nominated her father Mitchell as her Woolworths NetSetGO hero.
Matilda’s dad coaches her netball team, teaching her and her friends lots of new skills finding time in his schedule to practice with her.
Matilda was thrilled when Fraser visited her club.
“I was excited when Tayla came to spend time with my team. It was special because I’ve seen her play, but I’ve never met her before,” she said.
“Tayla was really nice, I liked talking to her and asking questions about the Swifts and she watched our games.”
CANNON HILLS STARS
Up in the sunny state, Firebirds Lara Dunkley and Macy Gardner paid a visit to the Cannon Hills Stars.
Local participant Ava had nominated her mum Christen as her hero.
Ava’s mum coaches her little sister in the under seven competition and is the first one to set up and last to leave training. She was recognised for always helping the other teams while also still taking to the netball court to play.
Ava attends all Firebirds home games with her mum so having Lara and Macy visit was a dream come true.
