“Netball for us has brought our families together. Bringing out the best, and sometimes the worst in us,” says Quinnie with a laugh.
“Having our own family team has given us the opportunity to teach our kids the right values and attitudes, whilst creating positive and long-lasting memories.
“Our young teens and younger kids are spending way too much time on Facebook and Tiktok. On the other hand, us as adults, we feel that we’re not spending a lot of time with our children due to work and other commitments.
“It’s a weekly activity for the family to get together, play netball and have some fun.”
Getting the right balance of quality time with family is important for the 39-year-old business owner. A task made even more challenging with five kids aged between three and 18-years-old.
“It’s great because even the youngest of our children can get involved, they can take part in trainings and the fun games that we get to do. Netball is for everyone,” says Quinnie.
“We’ve also been able reach out to our extended family whom we never had time for before, plus our kid’s friends have been involved as well.”
Although Quinnie was always interested, it wasn’t until her husband started playing with his family that she wanted to do the same.
“My husband’s family are very close and love playing sports. I could see how it could benefit my siblings as well, if we were to play as a team,” says Quinnie.
“I feel that netball has brought us all together and has helped us as parents to help our kids with life choices and be able to keep a healthy eye on them.
“We have seen positive changes in our family members, especially our children. They are keen to exercise and are much more mindful of their health.
“I have been approached by quite a few parents to see if their kids can play for our team.
“I feel humbled when asked and I thank God for the opportunities that we have been blessed with to be able to help other families as well as teach our kids to always be kind and to appreciate each other, no matter what level they are in.”
