There was late disruption for the NSW Swifts ahead of the opening play at KRA, with Sarah Klau ruled out due to a quad complaint.
Despite the setback, the Swifts started sharply, before the Fever responded to set up a high-tempo contest. A wayward feed from Alice Teague-Neeld handed the Swifts an early chance, and they capitalised.
Fran Williams collided heavily with Tayla Fraser, forcing the Swifts midcourter from the court, with Maddy Proud injected into the contest. The disruption did little to slow the Swifts, with Helen Housby tipping through a turnover before Grace Whyte combined with her on a long cross-court play to extend the lead 10-4.
A tactical timeout from Fever coach Dan Ryan helped steady the visitors, who began to work their way back into the contest. A penalty against Teigan O’Shannassy gifted a simple scoring opportunity, and the visitors reduced the margin to 13-10 heading into the Power Five.
The Swifts reset through their own timeout. From there, momentum shifted.
The Fever surged late, capitalising on a Swifts rebound to close within one before levelling the scores from the centre pass. As pressure built, the Swifts’ long feeds into Grace Nweke began to show cracks.
Nweke had the final say, converting on the buzzer to send the sides into quarter time locked at 16-16.
Fraser returned to the court to start the second quarter, but it was the Fever who began to assert control. Sasha Glasgow was tireless in attack, while the Swifts continued to find clean ball into Nweke - though their growing penalty count began to hurt.
With the Fever leading 28-25 and building, Swifts called a Tactical Timeout, with Akle urging her side to create more space and stay composed. The message sparked a lift defensively, but the visitors continued to capitalise, stringing together consecutive goals to take control of the quarter.
The home side persisted with their direct ball into Nweke, while a defensive reshuffle, looked to curb Glasgow’s influence.
Fever maintained their composure, with Teague-Neeld producing a crucial tip and feed to set up another scoring opportunity.
Despite a late buzzer-beater from Nweke, the Fever claimed the quarter 19-14 to take a 35-30 lead into the main break.
The Swifts made multiple changes to start the third term, but it was the visitors who picked up right where they left off, dominating early and blowing the margin out to 10 within minutes.
A tactical timeout saw Teague-Neeld make way for Jess Anstiss, but the Swifts continued to struggle with discipline, winning possession only to hand it straight back. Managing just two of the opening 10 goals of the quarter, the home side quickly found themselves under mounting pressure.
Housby returned to the court in place of Whyte as the Swifts searched for answers, while a timeout, followed by the injection of Gina Crampton, did little to halt the green wave, with the Fever surging to a 51-34 lead at the Power Five.
From there, the wheels began to fall off for the Swifts. Nicola Barge was handed her debut in a bid to spark something, but the margin ballooned to 20 as the Fever continued to control every facet of the game.
Housby managed back-to-back super shots late, but it proved only a minor dent, with the Fever taking a commanding 56-40.
The final quarter was all Fever as the visitors ran away with the contest.
The visitors capped off their dominant display with a super shot on the buzzer, sealing a commanding 77-57 victory.
