Netball Australia (NA) has today invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from qualified organisations and consortia seeking to secure a new team owner licence in the Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) League, subject to NA Board approval of league expansion and confirmation of expansion timelines.
The EOI process marks an important step in delivering NA’s long-term SSN League growth strategy and aligns with the organisation’s 10 Year Strategy - Made in Netball, which aims to strengthen the reach, sustainability and commercial success of netball in Australia.
Consistent with Netball Australia’s strategic direction, two additional SSN licences are proposed for introduction at the earliest for the 2027 season. While the NA Board has not yet approved expansion, it has formally endorsed the strategic intent to explore and evaluate opportunities for growth.
Netball Australia CEO, Stacey West, said the EOI process reflects the ambition and momentum of the sport.
“The Suncorp Super Netball League has never been stronger,” West said.
“Featuring the world’s best netballers in action week in week out, a thriving fan base that drives strong viewership audiences and record-breaking attendances across women’s sports leagues in Australia, it is clear the league has grown significantly over the past decade.
“The 2025 season reached new heights with a record 388,455 attendees throughout the season, including a sold-out and record Grand Final crowd of 15,013 at Rod Laver Arena, while the season was also the second highest streamed of all time across the Foxtel Group with a 23% increase in viewership across the drama-filled finals series.
“As we look toward the next era, it is vital that any expansion is strategic, sustainable and aligned with the long-term vision of Australian netball.
“Investing in women’s sport presents a dynamic space for innovation, growth and purpose, and we look forward to engaging with interested parties as we consider the next stage of evolution for SSN.”
The purpose of the EOI process is to evaluate the strength, alignment, and commercial viability of prospective licensees and their preferred team locations. These insights will guide the NA Board’s consideration of expansion approval and, if endorsed, determine the most appropriate timeline.
The vision for SSN is to be the world’s premier female sports league: a competition built around fan experience, innovation, and world-class netballers whose skill, personality and cultural impact drive the sport forward.
The EOI process is open to private ownership groups, existing SSN licence holders, entities affiliated with other sporting codes and / or Consortia or hybrid ownership models.
