Sunshine Coast to host Diamonds

The Sunshine Coast will host the Samsung Diamonds camp ahead of the Netball Quad Series, as the team finalise preparations for the three-test series.

The Diamonds will train at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), utilising the netball court, gym, and recovery facilities across the four-day camp from Tuesday 22 August – Friday 25 August.

Athletes will take part in match play, on-court training, strength and conditioning and tactical sessions.

Head Coach Lisa Alexander said, “the facilities at USC are fitting for our Samsung Diamonds high performance program. We are pleased by the range and quality of facilities at USC, with all of our training to take place on campus.

“The local Sunshine Coast community were very supportive of Sunshine Coast Lightning in the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season, and we’re excited by the opportunity to bring the Diamonds to the regional centre,” said Alexander.

USC’s Head of High-Performance Sport Professor Brendan Burkett welcomed the Diamonds to the University.

“The Sunshine Coast region has a growing reputation for high-performance sport which is a credit to the people and organisations that have created the facilities and the expertise of the sports professionals,” he said.

“Staging training camps, like this one for the Australian Diamonds, provides opportunities for USC staff and students to experience and contribute to the high-performance camp environment.”

The Samsung Diamonds will contest the Netball Quad Series in Brisbane, Canberra and Invercargill.

The opening test will be held on Saturday 26 August at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, with a double header between Australia and England, followed by New Zealand and South Africa.
