Jane Searle, left, and Jane Woodlands-Thompson will again serve as coach and assistant coach of the Australian Fast5 Flyers, having led the side to a runner-up finish at the 2013 tournament.
Netball Australia’s Head of High Performance Carol Byers said the pair enjoyed a great working relationship last year and are excited about the challenge of leading the Flyers again.
“The enthusiasm that both brought to their coaching roles and last year’s tournament clearly rubbed off on the athletes who were chosen to represent the Australian Fast5 Flyers,” Byers said.
“The team and tactics they put together showed both have an excellent grasp about what it takes to be successful in the Fast5 format and this resulted in Australia achieving its best ever finish at the Fast5 Netball World Series.
“We are delighted to re-appoint the pair to the roles of coach and assistant coach again and no doubt they’ll be aiming to go one step better in 2014.”
Searle, who played 15 Tests for Australia from 1982-85, and Woodlands-Thompson, now the longest serving coach in the ANZ Championship and a two-time premiership coach for the Adelaide Thunderbirds, are both excited to continue their involvement with the Flyers.
“We’ve got a great support team around us, we have a good rapport with one another, both of us have a strong work ethic and we have a lot of fun together as well.”
Woodlands-Thompson said she enjoyed the whole experience of being involved with the national team and the tournament last year and is looking forward to resuming duties this year.
“Having watched the tournament from the couch the year before, the excitement and tactical pressure really appealed to me and it certainly didn’t disappoint,” Woodlands-Thompson said.
“I thought that Jane and I were a good combination and I thoroughly enjoyed the role as assistant coach and the opportunity to work with some of Australia’s best young talent.
“It was a terrific result to make the Grand Final and hopefully we can go that one step better this year.”
Searle said the Australian Fast5 Flyers team for this year’s Fast5 Netball World Series will be named on June 26.
