A natural athlete who played with flair, Delaney earned selection in the Australian squad for the first time after helping Australia win the 1996 Netball World Youth Cup in Canada.

She made her Test debut in 1997, but her international career was briefly halted following the birth of her daughter Yasmine in January 1998.

But the goal attack returned to the national line-up 12 months later and was part of Australia’s triumphant 1999 Netball World Cup team and the 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning side before announcing her retirement.

She played for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy, being part of their back-to-back premiership teams in 1998 and ’99. Delaney was named the Player of the Grand Final in 1999 for her 38 goals at 85 per cent accuracy against cross-town rivals the Adelaide Ravens.

She was the competition’s Most Valuable Player in 1999 and 2001 and shared the Players’ Player Award in 2001.

Delaney retired from all netball at the end of 2003 to take up coaching.
