Laura Geitz began playing for the Canberra Darters from 2005-2007 before joining the Queensland Firebirds in 2008.
In 2011 Geitz stepped up the challenge of Captaining the Firebirds after Lauren Nourse suffered an ACL injury and in the space of a year Geitz was a part of the Winning World Cup and ANZ Championship Teams. In that year she also took home the prestigious Liz Ellis Diamond Award as well as the ANZ Championship Player of the Year.
Geitz played in three Commonwealth Games winning silver in 2010, gold in 2014 as Captain and silver in 2018. In 2017 she took a year off to give birth to her son. However, after the back to back ANZ Championship wins of 2015 and 2016, Geitz didn’t feel done and returned to play a final season before retiring in 2018.
At the end of her career Geitz had played 169 National League games, won the ANZ Championship Player of the year award again in 2014 and the New Idea’s Australia’s Favourite Diamond in 2013. She played strong defence and carried that strength into her leadership of the Firebirds and Diamonds.
