The Samsung Diamonds have retained the Constellation Cup, but the job is not done yet, with one final test to play on Saturday at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney.

Both sides will be looking to finish their international year on a positive note. With the Commonwealth Games on the horizon each team will be searching for further improvement.

The Diamonds held the Ferns to their lowest score since 2014 in their last outing, in a topsy-turvy game. However, the Ferns showed they are capable of a comeback, narrowing the Diamonds’ 12-goal lead down to three within the third quarter, showing plenty of fight.

Will we see more of a moving shooting circle with Caitlin Thwaites and Stephanie Wood? This shook up the Ferns’ defenders, used to Caitlin Bassett’s style. Keep an eye on the Australian shooting circle. If the Ferns can better adjust to changes, will they break Australia’s momentum?

Lisa Alexander has opted for five midcourters, with Caitlyn Nevins named in the final 12. Except to see some changes in combinations through the middle.

It’s world number one versus world number two. Each time these nations take to court, anything is possible, so rest assured this will be no easy feat for the Diamonds.

From the coach…

“We are still searching for that four-quarter effort, that shows the progress we have made as a team.

“We are determined to keep going and keep winning. We need to lift our game again, at the end of the day it was a great result, and we are really happy to win the trophy…but this group really wants to perform at its absolute best in Sydney and over four quarters.

“The job is not done.”
