Netball Australia has launched the sport’s largest school strategy – Netball Schools.
Two key pillars of the program have been launched by Federal Sports Minister Sussan Ley, pictured, and Australian Diamonds midcourter Madi Robinson at St Mary’s Primary School, North Sydney.
Netball Schools will include the implementation of introductory program ANZ NetSetGO through the Australian Sports Commission’s Sporting Schools, the Teacher Ambassador program and netball specific curriculum via a new Mini Netball World Cup resource, providing students with a unique opportunity to learn through netball.
“We are excited to launch ANZ NetSetGO for Sporting Schools,” Netball Australia’s Head of Sport Development AnneMarie Phippard said.
“Our highly successful introductory program has been specially modified to suit the school environment and provides a sound platform for kids to move on to the full ANZ NetSetGO program conducted at their local club.
“It forms part of our overarching Netball Schools program that includes the ANZ NetSetGO for Sporting Schools program (4 sessions) as well as the Teacher Ambassador program and netball specific curriculum resources like the new mini NWC resource, which we are also launching.”
Schools will be encouraged to celebrate netball’s pinnacle event by running ‘Mini Netball World Cup’ tournaments and utilise the free comprehensive Maths, English, and Health and PE lesson plans in classrooms for girls and boys in Years 5-6.
A legacy program of the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015, schools will be invited to apply to participate in an attempt to break the world record for World’s Biggest Netball Clinic on Day 4 (Monday 10 August) of the Netball World Cup on Olympic Boulevard at Sydney Olympic Park.
The World’s Biggest Clinic will be available for Years 5 & 6 primary school students to participate in a skills and drills netball session on Olympic Boulevard followed by the opportunity to enjoy a special event with the Australian Diamonds on court in Allphones Arena.
