Netball Australia launches Netball Foundation

Netball Australia, in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, has established the Netball Foundation to raise money to help women and girls achieve their full potential both on and off the netball court.

The Netball Foundation has two distinct projects, the PlayNetball Fund will provide opportunities for disadvantaged girls to participate in netball and Diamonds Circle will support the Australian Diamonds on and off the court to maintain wellbeing and international supremacy.

“The Netball Foundation has been established to ensure netball remains the leading participation sport for women and girls through opportunities for the underprivileged while continuing to develop world class role models,” Netball Australia President Noeleen Dix said.

“Netball plays a significant role in the development of healthy, confident and resilient women and girls, along with making friends for life, in a safe, inclusive and fun environment.”

The PlayNetball Fund will help disadvantaged and underprivileged girls to participate in netball by subsidising netball’s sport development programs, supporting girls to transition to netball clubs, providing equipment free of charge and supporting netball’s Community Engagement Liaison Officers.

Australian Diamonds captain Laura Geitz hopes netball can have the same lasting impact on the lives of all participants as it has hers.

“I will be forever grateful for what the game of netball has given me, lifelong friendships and experiences that one can only dream of,” Geitz said.

“However underneath all of this, the wonderful game of netball allowed me to grow from a shy country girl into a young women with self-belief, it has been one of the biggest positive influences in my life.”

Diamonds Circle has been established to support the on-going development of Australia’s leading netballers, past, present and future, on and off the court through training and education, the transition to post-career life and in adversity.

Donations over two dollars are tax deductable and 100 per cent of funds go towards the Netball Foundation. Donors can choose which Netball Foundation projects to donate to.
