From Saturday, November 25, Netball Australia, the AFL, NRL and Australian Rugby Union will again join with Our Watch for the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gendered Violence, encouraging sports fans to be #MoreThanASpectator.
In 2017, fans are asked to challenge social norms by speaking out against the attitudes and behaviours that drive violence against women:
- Trivialising and condoning violence against women
- Devaluing and limiting women’s power
- Harmful stereotypes and disrespect towards women
- Sexism and harassment
Through short clips and images of some of the codes’ biggest stars, the campaign will highlight these behaviours whether they occur in public, venues, workplaces or the home, and encourage people to stand up and be #MoreThanASpectator.
