Lisa’s Blog: NSW Coach Visit

I’m on my way to Sydney for my final National Coach visit of the ANZ Championship season to the NSW Swifts.

I will be assisting with training and also taking the NSWIS athletes through their paces.

This visit is extremely important in the running of our high performance system and assists the Diamonds to continue to strive to be the World’s best high performance program.

We must be ever vigilant and stay ahead of the game!

At the Ballina Airport I was lucky enough to meet up with the Ballina Netball Association State Age teams on their way to the NSW State Age Championships in Wollongong this weekend.

This is a huge weekend of netball for New South Wales and is so important in the beginning of the pathway to the Australian Diamonds.

I was also lucky enough to meet Shirley O’Brien of the Ballina Netball Association who has been coaching for 50 years (pictured right). What a magnificent achievement!

Shirley captures the true essence of what netball means to the lives of women and girls in this country. I can’t thank her enough for her contribution to our sport.

I was humbled to be in her presence as we chatted about coaching her 12/Under Team.Lisa and Ballina Netball Association

Being in the Northern Rivers country was a treat as I presented the Brunswick Byron Netball Association in Mullumbimby (the hometown of the Australian Diamonds’ Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Leigh Smith), with a cheque for $20,000 from the ANZ Bank through the Netball Nation Dream Big Grants.

Julie Ryan accepted the cheque on behalf of the Association and we know it will be put to good use providing shelter beside the netball courts during the frequent downpours that occur!

It will also provide sun shelter and give our netballers a more comfortable environment in which to participate.

I loved my visit and the players, umpires and committee were all very excited to have the Australian Diamonds Coach attend this special event.

We even played “dunny flusher” tiggy in the true Aussie style.

We also have an exciting few weeks coming up in the ANZ Championship.

Can the NSW Swifts defeat the Southern Steel who have taken all before them?

Who will make that final three in both countries?

We will soon know all of these answers and then let the finals begin!
