Ingles added to Thunderbirds training group

Former captain and Club Champion Renae Ingles will join the Adelaide Thunderbirds as a training partner for the remainder of the 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season.

Winner of the Liz Ellis Diamond in 2013, Ingles took a break from netball following the birth of her twins, Milla and Jacob, in July last year and has not played netball since the Australian Netball Diamonds’ Constellation Cup campaign in October 2015.

While excited about Ingles return, Thunderbirds head coach Dan Ryan is pragmatic about where she will be at.

“While Renae will be available for selection as a member of our training squad, we are realistic that she has had a long period of time out of the game. At this stage, she is returning to the extended squad with a focus on rebuilding her skills and adjusting to the high-performance training environment,” said Ryan.

“We have been in constant contact with Renae through her pregnancy and since she has become a mother. We always left the door open for her to return to the Thunderbirds when she was ready.”

“Renae also brings a lot off the court, as a team member and mentor for our younger players. She is excited to be back with the Thunderbirds and we are excited to have her around our club again.”

The Suncorp Super Netball League has introduced a ground-breaking parental care policy for players with young children, which provides a supportive environment to assist mothers to play netball at the highest level. This is a first in Australian sport that takes into account the individual responsibility of being a parent, in addition to respecting the team as a whole and is available to all fully-contracted players.
Ingles will resume training with the squad next week.
