Honors shared between Aussie sides in Rotorua

Green photoHonors were evenly split in the head-to-head battles between Australia Green and Australia Gold on day two of the Trans-Tasman Under 19 Netball Tournament in Rotorua.

The first match of the day between the two Australian sides saw Australian Green triumph 37-29 on the back of a strong first quarter.

Green led Gold by six goals at quarter time and that proved the difference as the rest of the match was a tight contest. Gold did manage to win the last quarter by a goal but Green claimed their second victory of the week.

Kiera Austin led the scoring for Green with 15 goals at 83 per cent accuracy while Jane Cook was again on target for Gold with 13 goals at 100 per cent accuracy.

Midcourters Phoebe Wilcox and Hannah Petty and defender Lucy Armfield were prominent for Green while Jessica Anstiss, Clare O’Brien and Ashely Valeni did likewise for Gold.

However, the Gold side bounced back to win the afternoon match 44-34 for its first victory of the tournament.

The win was set up by Alison Miller, who scored 12 goals at 80 per cent accuracy in the first half before being replaced by Sophie Garbin (16 goals at 80 accuracy) while Cook also enjoyed another productive game with 15 goals.

Gold photoGold gained a decisive break in the third quarter and pulled away in the final term.

Casey Adamson was creative through the midcourt for the winners.

Emma Ryde shot 16 goals at 94 per cent accuracy for Green while Austin backed up with 14 goals at 83 per cent.
