The Gold Coast and Newcastle will host Australian Diamonds camps ahead of Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 as the team finalises its preparations for the opening game against Trinidad & Tobago on Friday 7 August.
Following the conclusion of the ANZ Championship, the Diamonds will convene on the Gold Coast for a four-day camp from July 6-10 before the team gathers in Newcastle for a final camp from July 31 – August 4.
“While the focus of the camps will squarely be on preparing the Diamonds for the Netball World Cup, we’re excited by the opportunity to bring the Diamonds to regional Australia for a series of team camps in Queensland and New South Wales,” Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said.
Ranked number one in the world, the 12-player Diamonds team and training partners will fine tune their World Cup campaign with match-play simulations, strength and conditioning, and technical sessions.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said the Netball World Cup is one of the highlights of the NSW 2015 Major Events Calendar.
“There are only a few months to go until the Netball World Cup begins in Sydney, and I wish the Diamonds all the best in their preparations. The NSW Government is proud to support the World Cup through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, and the event promises to attract visitors from around Australia and the world to see the Diamonds defend their crown,” he said.
Tourism and Events Queensland CEO, Leanne Coddington, said the Australian Diamonds training camp on the Gold Coast was a fantastic prelude to NetFest 2015.
“Major participatory events such as NetFest play an important role in bringing visitors to the Gold Coast, with the 2015 event expected to deliver more than 10,000 visitor nights,” Ms Coddington said.
“The Gold Coast is the perfect destination to combine first-class sport with a fantastic tourism experience, and I encourage participants to stay on and enjoy what’s on offer.”
The Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 will be held at Sydney Olympic Park from August 7 – 16. The Diamonds begin their world cup campaign against Trinidad and Tobago on Friday 7 August at Allphones Arena. The Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 will be broadcast in Australia on FOX SPORTS, Network TEN and via the Netball Live app.
The Australian Diamonds team for the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 will be named on Wednesday 24 June, immediately following the ANZ Championship.
