The 18-athlete 2017/18 Australian Diamonds squad will gather at the Netball Australia Centre of Excellence in Canberra on Tuesday, for a seven-day camp to prepare for the upcoming international season.
Australian Diamonds Coach Lisa Alexander is looking forward to getting the new squad together for the first time in 2017.
“Following a successful inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season, I can’t wait to bring our Diamonds together to continue preparations for our Quad Series and Constellation Cup campaigns,” Alexander said.
“Not only will this squad camp be critical in the lead up to our 2017 calendar, but it will be vital in preparation for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“Now is the time to re-set, with just over eight months until our pinnacle event. With Suncorp Super Netball commencing after the Commonwealth Games, our focus is on ensuring our athletes are prepared, both physically and mentally, in the lead up to a home Commonwealth Games,” said Alexander.
Four invitees have been invited to join the camp; Sunshine Coast Lightning premiership midcourter Laura Scherian, GIANTS Netball’s Sam Poolman, Kristina Brice and Kristiana Manu’a. The invitees will provide additional support during the camp.
In addition to courtwork sessions, the athletes will undertake fitness testing, strength and conditioning, and performance analysis. They will also work closely with Ray McClean from Leading Teams on team culture and leadership.
