The current Diamonds’ squad have reunited in Canberra, undertaking a two-day camp at Netball Australia’s Centre of Excellence.
Coach Lisa Alexander said despite the short duration, the camp was “very important” in preparation for the upcoming international calendar, that commences in August.
“We (had) a really important training session today, we’ve already done a really productive performance analysis session. There’s lots to do.” Alexander said.
“We’re spending time on some tactical work, which is very important in preparation for our series in August.”
Alexander said the camp was also important for reconnecting the players, who are together for the first time since January’s England Tour.
Currently all squad members are playing in the ANZ Championship, although Alexander says the team are in a Diamonds’ focus in this camp.
“It’s great, they are all getting connected again and having a great laugh,” Alexander said.
“The leaders are very good in terms of reminding all of the players that this is Diamonds’ time now and we switch over for just a little bit of time.”
Midcourter Paige Hadley said re-joining with the squad as well as support staff was “vital” for refocussing on Diamonds’ goals.
“We’re from different states and playing for different franchises, so I think it’s really important to just come together and refocus on the Diamonds’ goals and what we are trying to achieve in a holistic approach,” Hadley said.
“Coming in for two days, seeing everyone, not just the athletes but the support staff and the high performance staff and checking up, I think is vital. It’s been nice to see everyone and get back on track.”
The Diamonds’ squad will return to their home states on Tuesday ahead of Round 10 of the ANZ Championship.
