Fans will be treated to a double header in Melbourne on Fathers’ Day, with the England Roses and South Africa Spar Proteas playing off for third position, before the Australian Diamonds host the New Zealand Silver Ferns to determine the winner of the Netball Quad Series.
The Diamonds face traditional rivals New Zealand for the first time this year. The last time they met, it was the Ferns who claimed victory over the Diamonds in the final 2015 Constellation Cup Test in Perth. There are five changes to the Diamonds’ team from the 12 who last faced the Silver Ferns.
Both teams have recorded a win against England and South Africa and will be looking to stamp their authority on the new series by being named the inaugural winners.
Watch out for the contest between Kim Ravaillion and Laura Langman. Each provides a critical link from defence to attack and could be the game changer.
The Diamonds will be looking to avenge their Constellation Cup loss in Melbourne last year, as well as get a win in their first ever match at Margaret Court Arena.
From the coach:
“The Silver Ferns are a formidable opponent who we have the upmost respect for. Australia versus New Zealand is the ultimate sporting rivalry, and we intend to represent our country with pride.
“We expect the Ferns to come out hard. We have had similar results in our opening two Tests and will both be looking to build on our performances. We will need to improve our basics, as these will be put to the test through immense pressure from the Ferns.
“Our twelve athletes have demonstrated their abilities to be flexible and play in numerous combinations. We will continue to call upon all of our players in order to put out our best performance on court.”
- This will be the first international netball Test played held at Margaret Court Arena
- Australia has played New Zealand 127 times, winning on 77 occasions.
- Last time they met, the Silver Ferns defeated the Diamonds 58 – 47.
