Diamonds lift intensity for series start

Australian Diamonds young-gun Kim Ravaillion said the feeling in the Diamonds camp is “strong” following their preparations for the upcoming Constellation Cup.

The first Test begins at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena today (Sunday October 9), with Ravaillion explaining the group has stepped up their preparations for the four-Test series against their arch-rivals the Silver Ferns.

“We feel we have raised the bar a little bit higher. Each training session is getting harder and harder which is good, and we’re lifting the intensity,” Ravaillion said.

“Hopefully the game on Sunday we have that really good start and we can go from there.”

The last time these two sides met in the Netball Quad Series, it was the Diamonds who sealed the series with a five-goal victory at the pointy end of the match.

Shooter Caitlin Thwaites said the group are constantly looking for ways to improve their game.

“We’re just always constantly looking for areas of improvement. As part of high performance teams you’re never happy with walking off the court having missed a goal,” Thwaites said.

“We’re looking at our transition at the moment, that’s one thing we’re wanting to really be able to click into a lot quicker than what we have done.”

Both Thwaites and Ravaillion were a part of the Diamonds team who took home gold at last year’s Netball World Cup at Qudos Bank Arena.

Ravaillion said despite the emotions associated with the arena, she’s not going to let any additional pressure get to her in the lead-up.

“All I can remember is all of those crazy emotions that we had at the Netball World Cup and that winning feeling,” Ravaillion said.

“Hopefully we can continue that feeling here in Sydney on our home court and I can’t wait to get out there and play on Qudos Bank Arena again.

“You only add pressure to yourself. Going into this game we’ve just to got to think of it as a normal netball game and that really takes the pressure off. That’s how I will go in.”
