Diamonds book England Tour in January

The Australian Diamonds will return to the Northern Hemisphere in January 2016 after England Netball announced a three-Test series against the England Roses, beginning on Wednesday 20 January in Liverpool.

The last time the two sides met, the Diamonds claimed a two-nil series victory over England in last year’s Real Insurance Netball Test Series in Australia.

Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said she hopes to field a full strength Australian team as the Diamonds kick off a new four-year High Performance cycle ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Netball World Cup LIVERPOOL 2019.

“We’ll ensure that we’re approaching the series with our best intention of putting out a great performance, it’s going to be serious business so we’re expecting to take our strongest available team,” Alexander said.
January will be the first time the Diamonds have toured England since suffering a maiden three-nil series defeat to the Roses in 2013. The defeat remains a turning point for the Diamonds, who have since won 19 consecutive Test matches and the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow last year.
“It’s enormously exciting and a great opportunity for Australia to go back to England to try and redress the result of 2013,” Alexander said.

“It’s going to be a tough tour no matter what; England have shown they’re a real world power in netball and to play them on their home turf, which we haven’t done for two years, is going to be a great challenge and test for us.”
The 2013 tour is also remembered for the international debut of Diamonds’ Netball World Cup team member Kim Ravaillion, who became the first player in the modern era to represent Australia before making her maiden national league appearance.

The Australian Diamonds are preparing for Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015, held at Sydney Olympic Park from August 7–16. The Diamonds begin their World Cup campaign against Trinidad and Tobago on Friday 7 August at Allphones Arena.

Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 will be broadcast in Australia on FOX SPORTS, Network TEN and via the Netball Live app, available to download from the App Store and Google Play. Tickets are available from
