Day out to remember for community umpires

IMG_1420Thanks to ANZ Netball Nation, two regional umpires from South Australia and Victoria had an opportunity to travel to Melbourne and experience an ANZ Championship match.

Lesley Sidhu, from the South Australian town of Waikerie, and Tarli Kelly, from the Gippsland town of Nyora in Victoria, were nominated by club members who entered and won the Netball Nation Umpire grant.

The pair attended the Melbourne Vixens and Southern Steel match at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena last weekend

As part of their prize, the pair experienced a `back-of-house tour’ of the ANZ Championship venue as well as an opportunity meet and greet the match day umpires Josh Bowring, Rachael Ayre and Clare McCabe (reserve) before the match.

Sidhu, pictured right with daughter Sinead, has been umpiring for two years in the Riverland Netball Association in South Australia while Kelly officiates in the Ellinbank and District Netball Association.

The pair enjoyed the experience and opportunity to chat with three of Australia’s leading umpires.

Netball Nation Grants program is still calling for entries and is awarding grants to passionate netball players, umpires, coaches, clubs, associations and fans.

There are grants suitable for everyone involved in netball, such as new equipment, uniforms or experiences.

Visit the NetballNation website for more information about how to apply for a grant and much more.
