Caitlyn Nevins and Courtney Bruce are both equally excited and honoured to be selected to represent the Australian Diamonds, in the upcoming Netball Quad Series.
The Diamonds will undertake their Quad Series defence during the three-match series, which begins in South Africa’s Durban on Sunday January 29 (AEDT).
Nevins and Bruce are the only two uncapped athletes travelling with the group.
“It was such a special moment when Lisa (Alexander) phoned and told me that I’d made the team, I was just so excited,” Nevins said.
“It’s a huge honour to be selected to play for the Diamonds. It’s something that I won’t take for granted.”
“I was a bit in shock when Lisa called me, as it was something that I wanted for a while,” Bruce said.
“It was something that I thought I had dreamt up about for about a week.”
Both Nevins and Bruce have had international experience in the recent Fast5 Netball World Series, with Nevins also experiencing the Diamonds environment as a 2016 squad member, something she has found invaluable.
“I’ve only had a small taste on the international stage with the Fast5 Netball World Series and that was amazing,” Nevins explained
“Being included throughout the 2016 season throughout the Diamonds camps have really given me an insight into the game plan.”
Being fully involved in the Diamonds team environment is something the pair are looking forward to.
“I don’t really know what to expect just yet. It’s new, I’m just going to embrace all the challenges and play my role whatever that may be,” Nevins said.
“I’m looking forward to just immersing myself in the Diamonds environment and being with the girls,” Bruce said.
