Verity Charles has withdrawn from the Australian Fast5 team after being admitted to hospital with appendicitis over the weekend.
Replacing Charles is Laura Scherian who will join the Australian Fast5 team in Melbourne this evening as they gather for a training camp ahead of the 2018 Fast5 Netball World Series taking place at Melbourne Arena this coming weekend.
Scherian has won back-to-back Suncorp Super Netball premierships with Sunshine Coast Lightning and is one of the most elite midcourters in the country.
Australian Fast5 team coach Stacey Marinkovich is disappointed to lose Charles from her team for this weekend’s tournament but excited to see what Scherian will bring to the tournament in Charles’ place.
“It is obviously devastating for Verity to have to withdraw for medical reasons but in Vezzy’s true selfless approach she has already wished the team well and will be supporting us from back in Perth – we wish her a speedy recovery,” she said.
“Laura comes into the team bringing with her experience in playing in high pressured situations with speed and energy that makes her dangerous in both her attacking and defence – skills that will ensure that she makes a smooth transition into the team going into the championship.”
The final Australian Fast5 Netball World Series team is:
1. Jessica Anstiss – Western Australia
2. Kiera Austin – New South Wales
3. Laura Scherian – Queensland
4. Sophie Garbin – Western Australia
5. Matilda Garrett – Victoria
6. Kimberley Jenner – Queensland
7. Sarah Klau – South Australia
8. Maddy Proud – South Australia
9. Samantha Poolman – New South Wales
10. Kaylia Stanton – Western Australia
The Fast5 Netball World Series is taking place in Melbourne for the third and final time this weekend, October 27 and 28.
