Lauren Coelli is an active member of the Albury community, where she works closely with the Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau, creating an inclusive netball environment for girls from refugee backgrounds.
Lauren teaches young girls from diverse backgrounds netball skills through the Inclusion NetSetGO program, Netball Australia’s modified program for children from Indigenous and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, which in turn provides a pathway for the participants to join local clubs within the association.
Her efforts were acknowledged with an Australia Post One Netball community award for welcoming the families of refugees into the community and netball, building the confidence of the young girls through the NetSetGO program.
As part of the prize, Australia Post One Netball ambassador Elaine Osei-Safo visited Albury for a clinic and presented Lauren with her award at the Albury Netball Association Family Day.
“During the family day, the kids were enthusiastic and so happy to be there. They gave everything a go and wanted to learn more about netball.”
“Lauren’s work is invaluable. She is spreading the feelings of inclusion and happiness through netball and has created a safe and welcoming environment for children and their families to play and have fun.”
Lauren’s involvement within her club has created a stronger sense of community and inclusion and most importantly enjoyment in sport. She has helped current participants build upon their netball skills and continue to introduce more young girls from diverse backgrounds into the netball community.
Congratulations to Lauren on winning an Australia Post One Netball Community Award.
Lauren Coelli has received a $500 Australia Post Load and Go gift card for individual use as well as a $1,000 Load & Go Card for the Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau. She also won a signed 2017 Australian Diamonds team netball for herself.
