Namibia was the country where I spent most of my time during my trip and the Namibians are a beautiful and welcoming people.
It was a joy to spend time with 210 passionate coaches and players, and take them through their paces in netball and netball coaching. They travelled from as far as Zimbabwe – and a big hello my coaching colleague John – and Cape Town, in South Africa.
Teaching Bernie to complete a two-handed catch whilst elevating off two feet with great balance and poise and accessing her already stunning vertical jump was a coaching highlight.
It is certainly a world-class venue in which our youth teams will be able to display all of their skills and talents.
It is also a great credit to the vision of INF board member Tebogo Lebotse and Joan Smit, the INF’s Regional Manager for Africa, in regard to the dream of holding an INF event in Africa – particularly in Botswana.
The boost that netball will receive in Africa will be significant.
After a difficult, but thorough, selection the Diamonds squad has been chosen and all of our Australian ANZ Championship teams performed strongly in the last round against their New Zealand opponents.
We certainly hope this continues and ensures the Australian Conference will remain extremely competitive.
We now look ahead to our Diamonds squad camp in May at our Netball Centre of Excellence in Canberra at the AIS where we will begin to fine tune our plans for the Netball World Cup with the new squad and invitees.
