The Diamonds success at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has helped the team be nominated in two categories for this year’s I Support Women in Sport Awards.
Their stunning gold medal triumph over New Zealand has seen the Diamonds nominated in the A-Team of the Year category along with the Moment of The Year, which judges describe as the all-time best female sporting moment that sent the nation into a frenzy and Twitter into a meltdown.
The Diamonds were successful in winning the A-Team of the Year last year, (pictured right accepted by Netball Australia CEO Kate Palmer) and coach Lisa Alexander said it’s an honor to again be nominated alongside some of Australia’s elite female sporting sides.
Geitz has been nominated for Leadership Legend – the same award Natalie von Bertouch took out last year – while recently retired Australian star Catherine Cox is among five nominees in the Service to Sport Award.
The awards are now in its fourth year and Women’s Health editor Felicity Harley said it’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the remarkable achievements of Australia’s female athletes to the fore.
“It has been a phenomenal year for our female sporting stars. The recent Commonwealth Games … showcased Australia’s incredible depth of talent across all disciplines,” Harley said.
“I look forward to toasting the many inspirational and courageous successes of our Australian sportswomen.”
The awards will be presented in Sydney on October 13 and voting is open until October 1. Click here to register your support for our fabulous netballers.
