Is there a family member or someone at your local netball club or association that you look up to or admire for getting you out on the court every week?

If so, why not recognise and reward them? It could be tour mum, dad, brother, sister, grandparents, cousin, uncle, aunt, coach, umpire or friend by nominating them for the 2014 Telstra Netball Hero Award.

Australian Diamonds vice-captain Kimberlee Green has. The NSW Swifts captain has nominated her mum Denise as her Telstra Netball Hero and is calling on the Australian netball community to do the same and thank them for the encouragement and support they’ve provided over your netball journey.

“I started playing netball at a young age, so mum played a massive role in supporting me in my training, driving me to matches and providing the encouragement I needed to play at a representative level,” Green said.

“Her success as an Olympic swimmer gave me the inspiration and drive to succeed in my sporting endeavors and she was always there to provide the emotional support which is so important.”

You can visit www.facebook.com/telstranetball  and watch Green and her mother talk about their close bond and netball story in a heart-felt video.

Green said a Telstra Netball Hero is someone who dedicates their time and energy to provide support and expertise for the game at a community level.

Telstra Netball Heroes take on a variety of roles – coaching, umpiring, volunteering, keeping score, tending to injuries and are courtside at every match, supporting the players and making netball the sport that is loved by so many Australians.
