Wedding bells, then Test series on calendar

Renae Hallinan has played her last ever game of netball.

But don’t fear Diamonds or Adelaide Thunderbirds fans – the star wing defence is not planning on following good friends Julie Corletto, Kimberlee Green and Rebecca Bulley into retirement just yet.

Instead, the next time she takes to the court – most likely in October’s Constellation Cup series against New Zealand – she will be under the name Renae Ingles.

Having been part of Australia’s triumphant Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 line-up, Hallinan is now turning her focus to her upcoming wedding with star Aussie basketballer Joe Ingles later this month.

“It has been a whirlwind four years and I have dreamt about two things — a gold medal at the world championship and walking down to aisle to my soul mate, my best friend,” Hallinan said.

“Life is so awesome. I am on cloud nine and could not be happier.”

The Netball World Cup Gold Medal `completes’ Hallinan’s career CV alongside her two ANZ Championship titles (2009, 2013), a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in 2014 and the Liz Ellis Diamond in 2013.

“It has been four years of hard work and I can say the decisions I made to alter my life have been worth it,” Hallinan said.

“I was absolutely shattered four years ago which makes it a little more special right now. The hard work has paid off,’’ Hallinan said. “I’m so relieved and excited, it’s unbelievable.”

After a brief honeymoon, Ingles will return to America to start pre-season with his NBA side Utah Jazz while Hallinan will turn her attention to Australia’s upcoming four-Test Constellation Cup Series where the Diamonds will renew their battle with the Silver Ferns following a pulsating World Cup Grand Final.

Australia holds the Constellation Cup, having produced a 4-0 clean sweep of the Silver Ferns last year and the Diamonds team will be named in early September.
