Unconventional shooter Gretel Tippett has put out a personal best international shooting performance in the Australian Diamonds’ 16-goal win over the South Africa Proteas.
Tippett, who played three quarters of the Diamonds’ second Quad Series Test in Durban, scored 20 goals for the match, more than double her previous personal best.
“My goal each time I step out onto the court is to improve on the last match I played in the gold dress,” Tippett said.
“I’m still not content with my game and I know there is a lot of improvement that needs to happen; but I am taking it little steps at a time and absolutely love every chance that I get out on court.”
Playing alongside Caitlin Thwaites, Tippett attributes her improvement in performance to the different style the combination put out on court.
Tippett’s previous personal best of nine goals was also reached alongside Thwaites in last year’s Tour of England.
“Our combination is a little bit different to what we are both used to,” Tippett explained.
“We got to play together in the England Tour around this time last year, and I really enjoyed it, I learnt a lot about her style of play.
“Caity is an unbelievable player and I love being on court with her, she gives me so much confidence.”
Thwaites celebrated a milestone of her own in the first quarter, scoring her 500th international goal.
“Caity is so strong and powerful, she can hold and present well, so I love being out there with her,” Tippett said.
“For Caity to get her 500th goal, that is amazing and I am stoked for her.”
Tippett said attention will now turn to a more disciplined game ahead of the final Quad Series test against the England Roses on Sunday. Watch the game live on 9Gem
