In accordance with the Australian Sports Commission Mandatory Governance Principles, Netball Australia has just one leadership role in the organisation.
The President has a constitutional role which is to Chair the Annual General Meeting. All other responsibilities rest with the Chair of the Board Anne-Marie Corboy.
Shaw, pictured, is delighted to be joining the Netball Australia board when the sport is on the verge of an exciting future having signed a new five-year broadcast deal with Channel Nine and the formation of a new national league in 2017.
Shaw served on the board of Netball WA for seven years including four as president before stepping down in 2014. He made a significant contribution to the planning and subsequent development of the new State Netball Centre and is still involved with Netball WA as chair of a committee.
He is also a board member of the Master Builders Australia in both Western Australia and nationally as well as a company director.
“It is a great honor to represent the members and be voted in as president,” Shaw said.
“The position excites me, especially with my background in the private sector and in netball. I am still incredibly passionate about this game and I know I can make a difference.”
Corboy has welcomed Shaw’s addition to the board.
“Robert will bring a range of board and commercial expertise – in particular his previous experience as President of Netball WA,” Corboy said.
Shaw will attend his first board meeting on June 18.
