Netball Australia is a member of the Asian Region under the IFNA system, and acts as the Secretariat for the Asian Netball Federation.  Netball Australia is committed to furthering development across the region and creating a vibrant and engaged Asian Region.  Some examples of the work Netball Australia has contributed to in the region are outlined below.

NetSetGo! Malaysia

As part of funding received from the Australian Malaysian Institute and from the IFNA NetEffect grant, Netball Australia personnel spent a week in Kuala Lumpur delivering NetSetGO! (Netball Australia’s Junior Development Program) coach training to identified coaches and teachers.  Thirty coaches undertook a two day coaching workshop which included delivery of the program to two centres.

Malaysia Netball Association (MNA) will be piloting NetSetGO! in 14 centres throughout Malaysia for girls aged 5 – 6 years old.  Netball Australia also facilitated a planning session with key MNA personnel and stakeholders to identify the barriers and opportunities that exist to further grow and develop netball throughout Malaysia, with a view to drafting and implementing a development plan for MNA.

Hong Kong Coaching Accreditation

Netball Australia has been assisting Hong Kong Netball Association to develop their Coach Accreditation Framework and associated modules.  Netball Australia personnel spent a week in Hong Kong training presenters and assessors, and running Level 2 courses.  Coaches and Umpires from Australia have also been engaged to deliver workshops for participants from across the Asian Region, in conjunction with the Hong Kong Tri-Nations Tournament, through IFNA NetEffect funding.

Goal Program India

Goal uses netball, life-skills and health education to empower young women.  The Naz Foundation partners with the Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP) in India to deliver this Program.  Netball Australia staff have been engaged to provide technical input and support.

Personnel from Netball Australia travelled to India in November 2011 to deliver training sessions for Goal staff to ensure that all girls undertaking the Goal program are receiving  high-quality, positive netball instruction.  Another staff member completed an internship with the program, travelling to the three Goal offices in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi to gain a better insight into how the program functions on the ground and work closely with Goal staff to review and provide recommendations on the operation of the program and coaching techniques.

There were over 1,000 participants in Goal activities in 2011-12 and the program aims to transform the lives of these girls and young women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
