Next month’s ANZ Championship Official Pre-Season tournament will be a netball feast, with 30 matches scheduled to be played over two days in Melbourne.
All 10 teams will be in action at Melbourne’s State Netball Hockey Centre for the `Summer Shootout’ and will play a minimum of six matches over the weekend of February 15-16.
The draw for the Pre-Season event has been officially released with matches being contested on two courts from 9am on Saturday 15 February and running right through until 9pm that night.
Overall, 20 games will be played at the venue on the opening day. Sunday’s action begins at 9am and concludes at 3.30pm with a further 10 games scheduled to be played over the day.
The two-day tournament will feature modified games consisting of two 15 minute periods.
The event is a joint venture between the ANZ Championship and Netball Victoria, and supported by the Victorian State Government.
ANZ Championship General Manager Andy Crook said it’s fantastic to have all 10 teams together in one location for the first time since the 2012 pre-season tournament played in Tauranga, New Zealand.
“With the regular season officially beginning on 1 March, the Pre-Season tournament will be a great opportunity for fans to watch high quality netball as teams fine tune their preparation what is shaping up as another exciting ANZ Championship season,” Crook said.
The Kia Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic take on the NSW Swifts in the opening game on Court 1 while reigning premiers Adelaide Thunderbirds line up against the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel on Court 2 from 9.00am.
