Samsung Diamonds shooter Tegan Philip says she is thankful to be returning to the international stage, following an ACL injury that ended her 2016 netball season.

The 28-year-old impressed in her return to the court during Suncorp Super Netball, and says she is excited to now don the green and gold.

“I’m very excited to be back representing Australia and playing for the Diamonds. I’ve had a few years out, but I am grateful and in awe of being here,” Philip said.

“There are plenty of solid goal attacks going around at the moment, so it’s definitely a hard position to crack.”

Philip says the Diamonds will approach England with caution, when they meet at Brisbane Entertainment Centre for the first game of the Netball Quad Series this Saturday.

With eight 2017 Suncorp Super Netball athletes in the England Roses team, Philip says their experience will be valuable.

“You can’t underestimate England at all. They will be solid performers this year,” Philip said.

“They will be up for a great performance and we will have to be on our game to be able to win.

Liz Watson said the Diamonds are building on July’s squad camp at the four-day Quad Series pre-departure camp.

“We started in Canberra really well and then back to our own states to train hard,” Watson explained.

“It was nice to see on court yesterday that everything we have been speaking about in our home states has been similar.

“The intensity was really high yesterday. It was a long and tough session, but I think that’s just what we needed.”

Watson says the group intend to continue building and bring it to the Quad Series opener against the England Roses.

“Against England we want to be putting out really high intensity and fast ball movement, they’re our two focuses, so hopefully we can do that on the weekend.”

The Diamonds host the England Roses at Brisbane Entertainment Centre Boondall at 3.00pm AEST Saturday 26 August. The New Zealand Silver Ferns will play South Africa Spar Proteas at the same venue immediately following the Australian game.
