About

Jane Searle was not only an elite netballer for more than a decade in Victorian and national teams, but played in Australia’s top women’s basketball league.

She made her Test debut during Australia’s triumphant 1983 Netball World Cup campaign in Singapore and remained part of the team for the next three years. Searle was named vice-captain in 1986, but unfortunately had to withdraw from the team.

Teammate could depend on Searle’s ability to shut down her opponent and her level head under pressure.

Searle began her coaching career as head coach at the Victorian Institute of Sport in 1995 and took over the role at the Melbourne Kestrels in the Commonwealth Bank trophy in 2004 and led them to finals in each of her four seasons in charge.

Searle also enjoyed a stint as assistant coach to the Australian team and also led South Africa in a three-nation series against Australia and New Zealand in 2001.

She coached West Coast Fever in the ANZ Championship for three seasons from 2009 and was coach of the Australian FAST5 Flyers in 2013 and 2014 at the FAST5 Netball World Series in Auckland, leading the team to silver medals in both years.
