About

Eloise Southby was 21 years old when she made her Test debut for Australia against Jamaica on its 1998 Caribbean tour but it wasn’t until 2000 that she established herself a permanent part of the team.

Southby’s combination with Sharelle McMahon was one of the most successful at both domestic and international level in the early 2000’s.

The duo were instrumental behind Australia’s 2002 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal triumph over New Zealand. Southby was renowned for her accuracy, strength and ability to make good decisions under pressure.

She made 132 appearances for the Melbourne Phoenix in 132 Commonwealth Bank Trophy and was part of five premiership teams before a recurring ankle injury forced her retirement.

After her retirement Southby was a TV commentator, co-wrote the netball-themed novel Anna Flowers and got involved with coaching.
